The upcoming election date is November 5th, 2024, which will be election day. Finally, as it draws nearer you might be asking yourself when is the best time to go and vote at the polling station? This blog post will offer a little advice to vote and ensure election day has little to no lines.
Get Up Early
Absolutely one of the best things you can do is go vote early in the morning when the stations open. First thing in the morning, polling locations are not as crowded as they are during the times people vote on their way to or from work. Try your best to be there in the first 1-2 hours as the centers open at 7 Am. The idea of going early is the most helpful to avoid spending too much time waiting, reduce time during the actual construction, and continue with the day’s activities.
Late Morning Lull
I heard from several people that they were unable to vote right as soon as the polls opened, try going early morning to late morning 9 AM to 11 AM. It will just be a little less crowded with voters during this time before the lunch traffic comes in. Those who do vote early have made their choice already while the mid-day voters are still waiting in line to exercise their rights. For a fast experience in voting take advantage of these slow mid-mornings.
Avoid the Lunch Rush
Especially when voting during lunch time, 11 am – 1 pm, most people will be rushed trying to vote as they get back to work. While ‘wait times’ for a table and waiting in ‘line’ during lunch may not be a problem at other times, the popular lunch hour will attract a lot of customers and this means that the ‘lines and wait times’ will not be very friendly. Wherever possible, get there before or after the busiest lunch times.
The afternoon is the ideal time I need to take advantage of
Around dinner time 5 PM – 8 PM also happens to be another good time depending on your destination since the large groups of tourists have gone back to their hotels for dinner. Citizens are not likely to step away from work to vote as they did at lunchtime, meaning that polling stations tend to record slightly fewer people during these mid-afternoon hours. Ideal time to make working fast entries and exits!
Beware the After-Work Rush
What is even worse, similar to lunchtime, people are expected to queue for the vote from 4 PM as that is when voting is most popular before the poll closes at 7 PM. This is a specific time during the day when most of the population is on the way from work and offices to home to make such a vote. Of course, if you don’t care, your best plan is to march and plan to vote before this evening rush comes.
