Cox Communications is a cable and telecommunication company that provides cable television, broadband internet, home security and automation, and digital telephone services to homes and businesses in 18 states. But the question that arises in the minds of many people is whether Cox is offered in Mississippi or not. Below is information about Cox’s service area and Mississippi coverage.
Cox Footprint
Currently, Cox Communications has been serving more than 6 million customers in eighteen states of America such as Arizona, California, Connecticut, Florida, Georgia, Idaho, Iowa, Kansas, Louisiana, Massachusetts, Nebraska, Nevada, Ohio, Oklahoma, Rhode Island, and Virginia.
However, it should be noted that despite Cox being one of the largest cable providers in the country, it currently does not offer its services in Mississippi. Although it operates in a neighboring state of Louisiana and throughout the other southern states, it lacks infrastructure and coverage in Mississippi as of now.
Well for those living in any city or town in Mississippi, including Jackson, Biloxi, Southaven, Hattiesburg, and all other cities in between and beyond, unfortunately, you cannot get Cox cable, internet, or phone services.
Attempts Made to Grow in Mississippi
Of course, at the moment, it is unavailable, but Cox has expressed the intention to extend its service area and provide Mississippi with bundled services.
In the year 2015, local media reported that Cox was in discussions with local authorities over the possibility of deploying a new fiber optic network across parts of Mississippi. However, those plans never materialized at the time of implementation.
Such regional diversification usually involves hefty initial commitments on infrastructure and construction by entities such as Cox. Since outside of a few major metropolitan areas, Mississippi is not heavily populated, it probably was not financially feasible for Cox then to invest in that level of infrastructure. However, as the technologies advance and Mississippi becomes a more attractive market, Cox might reconsider the decision to expand at some point in the future.
Alternative Providers in Mississippi
While Cox service is not available today in Mississippi, some alternative providers offer similar services across cable TV, internet, and phone offerings.
AT&T: Cable TV and internet service are provided to most parts of Mississippi by AT&T which offers comparatively affordable packages as compared to other cable operators in the United States.
C Spire: The southeast regional telecom company C Spire is the largest fiber internet provider in Mississippi, providing true broadband fiber optic connections to over 200000 consumers and businesses in the state.
DirecTV/Dish Network: These satellite TV providers provide service statewide for those households that seek to subscribe to cable/satellite TV without necessarily having to lay down cables or install underground lines. But they use satellite connectivity rather than fiber-optic cables buried in the ground hence they are slower.
Various regional cable providers: Other areas in Mississippi are served by other local regional cable players such as Cable One, MaxxSouth Broadband, and others in a more scattered manner. However, their reach does not cover the entire state.
Thus although Cox is out of the question today Mississippi does have other options in the form of various other companies offering similar packages of home services including cable TV programming, home internet, and home telephone services. But as Cox Knight has expanded throughout the South, some assume it might not be long before the company starts eyeing Mississippi to be added to the map of its service territories.
