  • Spectrum is a cable internet company used in the United States, with more than 31 million Spectrum Customer Service across 41 states. Spectrum internet also boasts of its fast internet speeds which are fairly priced like any other big ISP company out there has not been without its challenges and customer complaints. Is there really an underlying issue with their internet service, Spectrum or are they just scapegoats because they are a large corporation?

Accessibility – A common issue that Spectrum internet users report often is the issue with connection to the internet as well as interruptions. Spectrum is one of the cable TV providers that has expanded at a very fast rate mainly as a result of acquiring smaller cable companies within specific regions. One of the key challenges has been the integration of these many networks, and there have been substantial issues around growth. Users often express dissatisfaction with frequent signal dropouts, low speeds during rush hours, and even total dysconnexions in certain areas lasting hours. Spectrum argues that they always ensure that the infrastructure is updated to fit the needs of users; however, issues are experienced in various areas.

    Speed

Spectrum offers scary fast internet speeds up to 940 Mbps in some of its markets. But the fact is that even if some Internet speed tiers are promoted to clients as the maximum available ones, not all clients can experience the values of such rates stably. Spectrum is another American telecommunications company that relies on shared bandwidth, split by neighborhoods. If there is more demand for broadband in your region, it implies that more users are present, and this means many are streaming or gaming at the same time in the evening when many people get home from work, and this leads to more congestion. Custs are always frustrated by high speeds but they can slow down to even lower than what it was advertised.

    Pricing

Spectrum’s strategy is to rapidly increase competition market share within the broadband sector. Still, to attract many new subscribers, they offer relatively low rates for the first year or two, which are closer to promotional prices. However, what most customers do not understand is that after the promotion period is over, Spectrum has a reputation for raising customers’ monthly costs significantly. Customers continuously suffer from “experience decay” where they end up paying higher prices for services they once received at cheaper rates; however, they cannot switch to another provider due to market constraints in terms of internet speed in their region.

    Customer service

This aspect of the company is difficult for any client to deal with since dealing with Spectrum involves handling more issues than one would expect from other cable companies as suggested by the surveys and the reviews. Some of the problems that customers face include long hair on hold time, technicians who fail to show up for scheduled appointments, confusing bills and fees, and unhelpful staff when customers experience technical difficulties. In an essential monthly service such as home internet, failure to provide quality and efficient customer service is likely to increase the subscriber churn rate in the long run.

    Data Caps

It is fortunate that Spectrum does not limit the amount of data that the consumer can use per month when using the services offered for home internet connection as some other larger internet service providers do. However, its critics noted that this is a very liberal data policy that makes their millions of shared cable customers overload during peak hours, hence impacting negatively on speed. Nonetheless, consumers view unlimited data as an advantage on Spectrum’s side over capped data business from other competitor such as ATT or Comcast Xfinity.

    Monopoly Concerns

This is one area where competition is lacking and this is a key reason why most of the problems facing Spectrum customers can be traced. Currently, Spectrum has a strong hold in cable broadband many of the areas it operates. In simple words – Spectrum unhappy clients have no choice but to stick with the company because there is no other service provider in their locality with whom they can transfer their service to get better services or cheaper prices. This effective monopoly in many markets results in a lack of motivation and incentives for actual enhancements in service offerings or more customer-friendly tariff plans for subscribers.

All in all, Spectrum has some great advantages, namely, the fast internet speeds and the unlimited data usage allowance at quite attractive basic prices. Still, it is evident that there is more for Spectrum to be done to become less behind when it comes to offering more dependable connections, better relations with customers, and addressing the subscribers’ complaints not to make clients feel trapped due to a lack of competition. First, as a big cable ISP which is still connecting the acquired networks, the growing pains are unavoidable. However the company must invest more on infrastructure development and more importantly customer satisfaction to fit the expectations of the modern internet consumer.
